Lubbock Christian University Softball run-ruled Reinhardt University in 5 innings this afternoon, 8-0, to advance to bracket play in the NAIA National Championship.

After the loss yesterday LCU seemed to have no hope of making it to bracket play, but got lucky when Simpson University defeated Simon Fraser earlier in the day 3-2. With that result, LCU knew that they had a shot of still winning their pool. The Lady Chaps came into the game knowing they had to win, and win by 2 runs and they did that, with a little emphasis.

The Lady Chaps blanked the Reinhardt Eagles 8-0 in 6 innings behind another day of great pitching from Alyssa Freight. Freight gave up only 1 hit during the game and that came in the top of the 1st as a single from 1st baseman Haley Williams.

The Lady Chaps got on the board early courtesy of a Kim Frazier single that brought in center fielder Priscilla Fagaines and left fielder Kayla Van Dieren who were previously advanced to scoring position by a Andrea Agree sacrifice bunt. The Lady Chaps ended the 1st at a 2-0 lead.

The runs kept coming in the 2nd for LCU. Shortstop Sally Blackwell singled to left to bring in pinch runner Kenzi Carnell who had stolen second after getting on base. Fagaines then brought in Carnell on a deep double to extend the LCU lead to 4-0.

Things began to get out of hand in the 4th when Van Dieren hit a sac fly to bring in catcher Amanda Parsons. Which was quickly followed by a Reinhardt wild pitch that brought home Blackwell and Fagaines. To top it all off Frazier homered to finish the day scoring and extending the LCU lead to the final 8-0.

LCU sealed the deal in the 5th via 3 fly outs to mercy rule Reinhardt.

LCU will play the winner of the Trevecca Nazarene vs. Oregon Tech game scheduled for tonight at 5:30p. The Lady Chaps will play the winner at 10:30a, Monday, plus a second game at 12:30p Monday.  Both games can be heard on SportsRadio 1340 The Fan.
