A few standout LCU student athletes garnered weekly honors from the Sooner Athletic Conference Tuesday, for their performances turned in September 12-18.

Starting with soccer, goalkeeper Hunter Ganze was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Week after posting his second shutout of the season Saturday in a 1-0 overtime win against Huston-Tillotson University. The sophomore from Lubbock only faced two shots in the win, which gave him a 5-1-1 record.

The honor is Ganze’s first career conference honor. The Chaps will return to action Saturday Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. hosting Dallas Christian College.

The Sooner Athletic Conference recognized Izzy Miranda as their men’s cross country runner of the week. Miranda finished in second place at the Texas Tech Open for his second successful run of the season.

The Chaps continue running Saturday morning, as the Chaps cross country squads will participate in the Oklahoma City Invitational.

A pair of LCU volleyball players were also recognized as Brittany Johnson was named the Player of the Week, while teammate Jordan Goings was named the conference Setter of the Week.

Johnson claims her first SAC Player of the Week honor, while Goings claims her third setter of the week honor of the season.  The Lady Chaps next match is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in Oklahoma City against Mid-America Christian University.
