UPDATE (2:55 P.M.): Severe weather warning has been extended for Lubbock and Crosby counties until 3:30 P.M. Listen to AM 790 on the air and streaming online for the latest updates.

 

A tornado watch is in effect until 5 p.m. across the South Plains and Panhandle into Eastern New Mexico’s Curry and Roosevelt Counties and west into the Big Country. Those in Lubbock and Lynn Counties should move their vehicles to a safe location and take precautions to find a safe zone in case the weather worsens.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Lubbock and Lynn County until 3 p.m. as two thunderstorms are moving across the area. The storms are moving northeast at 25 mph. according to the National Weather Service. They estimate 60 mph wind gusts and hail which can cause damage to cars and homes. Golf ball sized hail is being reported in Eastern Lubbock County.

The NWS suggests moving into the center room of the first floor of your home or building. Ron Roberts urges those in mobile homes to move to a safer location.
