LPD Chief Honors Fallen Texas Tech Police Officer: ‘He Was a Fine Man’ [Video]
Thursday, October 12th, Lubbock Police Chief Greg Stevens held a press conference to give more insight on the officer who was murdered Monday night on Texas Tech campus.
East was from El Paso where he worked for the Texas Tech University Sciences Center. He was a graduate of a police program, and as a final portion of his training was working on Texas Tech’s main campus in Lubbock to become a full-fledged Texas Tech police officer.
East planned to rejoin his family who had stayed in El Paso and serve the satellite campus located there, according to Chief Stevens. Though East only began his training in recent years, he had wanted to be a Texas Tech police officer for a long time, explained Stevens.
“What I think is important is that we keep focus on the fact that Officer East was a fine man doing very honorable work, which he died doing,” said Chief Stevens.
Officer Floyd East, Jr. leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
