Lubbock Christian University’s interim cross country coach has been promoted to head coach for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Nick Cordes joined LCU last year and brought with him a wealth of track and field experience. Cordes began running in high school in 1995 and eventually competed at the Olympic Trial and professional levels.

Cordes previously served at Ohio’s Ashland University as the head cross country and assistant track coach for five years before making the decision to move to Lubbock to start a family in 2010.

Leigh Daniel, Cordes’ wife and a native Lubbockite, is herself an accomplished runner. Daniel attended Monterey High School and Texas Tech, where she won two national track championships - Tech’s first individual national champion. Daniel also coached at Ashland University.

Daniel joined LCU in 2014 as a volunteer assistant coach but has since started two running clubs and serves at the director of training at Cardinal’s Fitness.
