The Lubbock Police Department and the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Department, with the Texas Department of Public Safety will hold another Citizens Academy program starting in April.

The 12-week course will introduce students to programs and services provided by law enforcement. Weekly meetings will be held Tuesdays from 6pm to 9:30pm.

Participants in Citizens Academy will learn about patrol procedures, SWAT, the crime lab, aircraft operation, border operations, K-9 units, tactical driving, crash investigations, criminal investigations and civilian response to active shooters.

Citizens Academy is designed to educate students about how law enforcement organizations function on a daily basis, and the safety challenged they face. The academy will be held at the offices of DPS, the Lubbock County Sheriff's Department and Lubbock Police Department.

Applications can be filled out online at www.lubbockcitizensacademy.com and the deadline is March 6 at 5pm. No more than 25 students will be accepted into the course, and students must commit to attending at least 10 of the 12 weeks of classes.
