I feel no shame in being proud of my beautiful hometown. Where others see scrub and dust, I see a unique ecosystem with a wild beauty that supports all manner of life -- from healing wild sage to the cute antics of a colony of prairie dogs.

No matter who you are or what your sense of beauty is, we can all agree on one thing: West Texas has more sky. Gorgeous, humbling expanses of it, unbroken and unfettered -- a gorgeous reminder of our small but sacred place in an infinite universe.

Lubbock-based photographer Tom Heisey recently captured some gorgeous shots of the Leonid Meteor shower this past Friday night/Saturday morning.
