I think my route into work gives a pretty good sampling of road conditions. As you can see I hit most of I27 inside Lubbock and a nice size swatch of Loop 289. Do keep in mind that these are the conditions at 5:00 a.m. and your conditions could be really different.

My trip this morning started with 15 minutes of window defrosting, a slippery driveway and fishtailing in the neighborhood. Things improved a bit on the North Interstate but seemed to get worse the further South I headed. The little overpass from I-27 to Loop 289 was slippery and the Loop had some rough patches.  I wouldn't call it a skating rink out there, but there are more than enough bad patches to ruin your day. Overall I'd give the roads a letter grade of "D" or even "D-" as in definitely below average conditions.  Also keep in mind as I write this there are more snow flurries being added to the mess so conditions are likely to stay bad or even worsen.

There is a 70% chance of more "wintery-mix" today, but that will go away after about 1 p.m. so your drive home should be okay.

L.I.S.D. has decided to start two hours late and Tech is delaying classes until 10 a.m.. We have a full list of closings for you at the button below. I actually expect this list to grow.
