A school bus fell into a sinkhole in Lubbock Friday morning, causing minor injuries to a bus driver and aide.

Lubbock ISD Spokeswoman Nancy Sharp confirmed that no students were on the bus during the incident, which happened near 42nd Street and Elgin Avenue. The sinkhole apparently formed due to a ruptured waterline. That leak caused pavement to collapse, the City said.

Photos taken by local woman Perla Garcia (see above) show the school bus with its rear tires stuck in the collapsed road.

According to the City of Lubbock, workers with Pipeline Maintenance Crews are currently repairing the ruptured waterline, but expect it to take through the weekend to complete. During that time, 42nd Street from Canton Avenue to Elgin Avenue will be closed to traffic.

LP&L customers were not impacted by the rupture, said The City of Lubbock.
