Maria Sharapova to Face Petra Kvitova in Wimbledon Women’s Final
Maria Sharapova is one victory away from her second Wimbledon title and will face Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic Saturday at the All England Club for the ladies title.
Sharapova won the title seven years ago as a 17-year old phenom and took the tennis world by storm, but injuries the past few years have plagued the superstar. T
Sharapova beat Sabine Lisicki 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals despite 13 double-faults and falling behind 3-0 in the first set to win 12 of the past 16 games against the German.
Kvitova mowed through fourth-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, in a 3-set victory 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 to earn a spot in her first grand slam final.
