Texas Tech men’s basketball fraternity brother turned forward Matthew Temple has been awarded an athletic scholarship for his senior season announced Tuesday by head coach Chris Beard.

Temple, who was playing in the rec league just a short time ago, started 15 games for Texas Tech last season. These games came during the team's hot run through conference play and into the NCAA Tournament. He had 88 points and 43 rebounds in his Junior campaign.

Temple joined the team last summer as a walk-on after Clark Lammert, former Red Raider basketball player, encouraged him to do so. He traveled with the team on its Canadian Tour in August and become eligible after the fall semester.

Texas Tech will return the bulk of its success from last season, sans Tubby Smith obviously, with its statistical leaders all coming back. Players responsible for 65 percent of all points, boards, assists, blocks, and steals are all returning.

Matt Temple's scholarship puts the team within a spot or two of filling the roster for the 2016-17 season.

Although Temple isn't a "new" addition, this scholarship offer will make his story even sweeter. It's always fun to root for the underdog.
