Monday Night Football: Washington Redskins beat New York Giants, 17-16
Robert Griffin III threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Pierre Garcon early in the fourth quarter, and the Washington Redskins held on to beat the New York Giants, 17-16 in Landover, Md. on Monday night. Griffin rallied Washington (6-6), which trailed 16-10 after three quarters. He completed 13 of 21 passes for 163 yards, and rushed for 72 yards on five carries, breaking Cam Newton’s NFL record for rushing yards by a rookie quarterback set in 2011.
Garcon finished with eight catches for 106 yards and the eventual game-winning score. Griffin fumbled in the first-quarter, but the ball sailed into the arms of Washington’s Joshua Morgan who took it into the end zone for a Redskins’ touchdown. Redskins’ rookie running back Alfred Morris ran for 124 yards, putting his total over the 1,000 yards for the season.
New York (7-5) has lost three of four games. Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning threw for 280 yards and a touchdown. New York’s Ahmad Bradshaw ran for 103 yards, while teammate Victor Cruz had five catches for 104 yards.
