The Dallas Cowboys have made a new hire in their organizational shake up after another 8-8 season.

The Cowboys have hired longtime NFL assistant Monte Kiffin as Defensive Coordinator to replace the recently fired Rob Ryan.

Kiffin has spent the past four seasons coaching the college ranks at Tennessee and Southern California for his son, Lane Kiffin.

The hiring of the older Kiffin will mark a change for the Cowboys defensive scheme as they will change from the 3-4 defense to the 4-3 defense.

Kiffin, who is 72 years old, spent 15 years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before joining his son in the college ranks and is the architect of the "Tampa 2" scheme which is run out of the 4-3.

The Cowboys haven't finished in the Top 10 in total defense since the 2009 season, the last time they made the playoffs.
