Javelin thrower Hannah Carson qualified for the Outdoor Championships for the third year in a row, winning the qualifying meet with a school-record of  56.56m/185-7. Carson’s winning throw was 14 feet better than the nearest competitor

Kyle Thompson qualified in the men’s pole vault by clearing a height of 5.35m/17-6.50 in a jump off to advance to national meet in Eugene, Oregon.

"I'm in total disbelief," Thompson said. "As I went over the bar and landed, I thought the bar had fallen off. As I looked up, I saw that it hadn't, and I couldn't believe it. I'm so happy I'll get to compete in Eugene as a senior. So many of my teammates who came in ranked outside the top 12 have been stepping up and qualifying, so as a senior, I knew I needed to be a leader and focus, so I could do the same."

Thompson, who was ranked 21st in the region entering the weekend, is the first male Red Raider pole vaulter to advance to NCAA Outdoors since 2012, and he was the highest finisher from the Big 12.

Paetyn Revell became the first Tech woman to qualify in the triple jump since 2005 as she leaped 12.79m/41-11.5 on her first attempt in the triple jump, good enough to break into the top 12.

Weather delayed the running events for more than an hour, but it could not stop the Red Raiders’ momentum.

Le’Tristan Pledger, who had already qualified to compete in the long jump event, qualified in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.39 seconds.

Pledger’s teammate Cierrra White also picked up her second NCAA qualification by recording a 23.19 effort in the 200-meterdash to go along with her qualifying in the 100-meter dash.

The men’s 4 x 400 relay team of Joseph Richards III, Kyle Collins, C.J. Jones and Steven Champlin qualified with a time of 3:04.15.

"I'm really proud of the way the athletes competed this weekend," said Tech Head Coach Wes Kittley. "The relay has been banged up, but they're hitting their stride, and that showed tonight. It was great to see Le'Tristan and Cierra get through in their second events of the weekend, too. Hannah looked great launching another school record, and Paetyn has been hot all season in the triple jump it seems, so I'm proud of her, too. I'm ready to see what this bunch can do in 10 days."

The National Championships are slated for June 10-13.
