After a five-year absence the Texas Tech women’s basketball team is returning to the NCAA Women’s Championship. The Lady Raiders will make their 19th appearance in the tournament and will open the 2011 NCAA Women’s Championship as the No. 8 seed in the Spokane Region when they face No. 9 seed St. John’s in Stanford, Calif., at Maples Pavilion on Sat., March 19, at 3 p.m. CDT on ESPN2. The other first round game in Stanford, Calif., is No. 1 seed Stanford versus No. 16 seed UC Davis at 5:30 p.m. CDT.

The 64-team NCAA women's field is out with defending national champion Connecticut, Tennessee, Baylor and Stanford the No. 1 seeds in the tournament that begins Saturday. The Huskies will be trying for their third consecutive title when the women's tourney concludes April 5 in Indianapolis. The Big 12 landed 7 teams with Baylor as a No. 1 seed in the Dallas Region along with No. 2 seed Texas A&M. Texas is a 9 seed, Oklahoma a 6 seed, Iowa State a 7 seed, and Kansas State a 8 seed.

No. 5 LCU Softball went 1-2 yesterday in the Tucson Invitational losing games to Midland University 4-3 and Vanguard University 7-4. They defeated Missouri Valley College 8-0 in a 5 inning run rule game.

In a possible preview of the NBA Finals, the Miami Heat mounted one of their most impressive performances of the season in routing San Antonio 110-80 last night. Chris Bosh led the way with 30 points and 12 rebounds with Dwyane (dwayn) Wade scoring 29.

The lowly New Jersey Nets are riding their longest win streak of the season, five games. Brook Lopez scored 20 in an 88-79 win over the Boston Celtics.
