Texas Tech spring football practice will continue today at 4pm and Thursday at 4pm followed by the Texas Tech Spring Game this Saturday at 1pm at Jones AT&T Stadium.

The Texas Tech soccer team opened the spring season with a 2-1 win over Stephen F. Austin at the Challenge SC College Showcase in Houston. Tech started slow and found itself down 1-0 at the half, but came back in the second half to get the victory. They continue their spring season Saturday at TCU with a noon kickoff.

Texas Tech junior Stephen Hagen has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week and freshman outfielder Andre Wheeler was named Newcomer of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.

The No. 18 Texas Tech men's golf team nearly pulled off its third-straight upset in the semifinals of the Callaway Match Play Championships at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground Ga., but fell to No. 4 seed Illinois, 3-2.

Manu Ginobili scored 28 points and the San Antonio Spurs got a scare when Tim Duncan sprained his left ankle in a 111-96 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Monday night. X-rays on Duncan's foot were negative. The injury looked potentially serious as Duncan lay on his side, clutching his foot with both hands, for more than a minute.

The Houston Rockets have assigned center Hasheem Thabeet to their developmental league affiliate in Rio Grande Valley.
The 7-foot-3 Thabeet has played in only two games since the Rockets acquired him from Memphis in the deadline deal that sent Shane Battier to the Grizzlies. Thabeet averaged 1.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in 45 games with Memphis this season.

Victor Martinez had three hits and the Detroit Tigers roughed up Houston starter Brett Myers in a 9-1 victory over the Astros on Monday. Austin Jackson also had three of Detroit's 18 hits and Phil Coke pitched five strong innings. Alex Avila drove in three runs.
Myers is scheduled to start the season opener April 1 at Philadelphia, his former team. The right-hander gave up five runs, 12 hits and three walks in five innings Monday.

Nelson Figueroa has been chosen the fifth starter in the Houston Astros pitching rotation. The Astros announced Monday that the 36-year-old right-hander, who started 10 games for Houston last season, will complete the rotation behind Brett Myers, Wandy Rodriguez, J.A. Happ and Bud Norris.
