[Update #2 ] The City of Lubbock has issued a press release regarding the multi-vehicle accident and a female victim:

At approximately 1:22 p.m., a Department of Public Safety Trooper came across a 34-year-old female laying in the roadway of 2900 North Interstate 27.

The female had a severe head injury and was transported to University Medical Center. It was believed the injury was life-threatening at the time.

Lubbock Police Department Patrol Units and the LPD’s Accident Investigation Unit were called to the scene. An initial investigation seems to show the female had jumped from a moving vehicle at that location. The motive for her doing so is currently under investigation and unknown at this time.

Because of these events, a secondary accident occurred almost immediately thereafter at the same location, and involved an 18-wheel semi-truck, a U-Haul and passenger car.  There were only minor injuries reported on the secondary accident.

The investigations into both accidents are currently in progress at this time. It is unknown if criminal charges will be filed against anyone at this time as well; this will be determined through the course of the investigation. An update on the status of the female is not currently available. More will be released if it is available.

[Update] According to Everything Lubbock, the Lubbock Police Department’s Accident Investigation were called out to the scene of the accident and that one person reportedly jumped out of a moving vehicle during the initial crash.

No information has been released regarding the seriousness of any injuries sustained by those involved in the multi-vehicle accident.
