Neftali Feliz Falls Apart in 9th as Texas Rangers Can’t Complete Sweep of the Houston Astros

The Texas Rangers couldn’t complete the sweep last night against the Houston Astros, losing 5-3.

Most of the blame for the loss has to be on normal clutch closer Neftali Feliz who blew a 3 run lead in the 9th.

Colby Lewis had another good day on the mound as the starter for the Rangers. Lewis threw 7 shutout innings while giving up 3 hits and helping the Rangers build a 2-0 lead, but got a no decision.

Lewis was taken out for reliever Dave Bush who would give up 1 run in his inning of pitching, but the Rangers responded in the bottom of the 8th on a Michael Young double to extend their lead to 3-1.

Unfortunately, things fell apart for Feliz when he came in to close the game.

Feliz would give up 4 runs in the 9th on a double, passed ball, and a big two run homerun by Mike Downs. Pinch Hitter, Downs’ homerun gave the Astros their only lead of the game. Feliz gets his first loss of the season and jump his ERA up to 3.21.

The runs for the Rangers came on a passed ball in the 1st inning that allowed Ian Kinsler to score and on a Nelson Cruz solo home run in the 5th, his 17th of the year.

The Astros and Rangers both have tonight off and host a series before wrapping up their regular season sereis. The Astros will host the Tampa Bay Rays and the Rangers will host the New York Mets before the Rangers travel down to Houston to decide the Battle for the Silver Boot.
