All-Pro Quarterback Tom Brady’s favorite target Wes Welker left Saturday night’s 34-10 preseason loss at Detroit with an apparent neck injury.

Welker appeared to suffer the injury while attempting to make a tackle on an interception thrown by Brady late in the second quarter. The official announcement of the injury came early in the third quarter with the Patriots trailing 27-10.

Welker was New England’s leading receiver last season, catching 86 passes for 848 yards. He’s part of a veteran group of receivers with the Pats that includes Deion Branch and Chad Ochocinco. Prior to the injury Welker caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady in the second quarter for New England’s first score of the game.
