The Texas Department of Transportation and city of Lubbock will activate the traffic signals at the Slide Road and FM 1585 intersection next week.

The new signals are set to come online Tuesday, November 8. The current traffic condition at the intersection is a four-way stop. The new traffic signals have flashing yellow left turn arrows and meet Federal Highway Administration standards.

"The flashing-yellow, left-turn arrows were adopted in 2009 by the FHWA as the national standard for permissive left-turn signals," said Steve Warren, P.E., TxDOT Lubbock District engineer. "The signals are now being used by TxDOT and local jurisdictions across the state."

Motorists should be aware that oncoming traffic has a green light when the flashing yellow arrow is displayed.
