Texas Tech Red Raider Softball finished off the Kansas Jayhawks early Saturday afternoon in Lawrence, KS. The game was a continuation of the Friday night game that was postponed in the 5th inning due to inclement weather in the area.

Kansas (30-17, 5-14 Big 12) took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and the score remained that way until Texas Tech (38-13, 11-8 Big 12) tied it at 1-1 in the top of the fourth courtesy of a Holley Gentsch solo home run. The Red Raiders would then plate two more runs in the next inning to take a 2-1 lead over the Jayhawks before the game was postponed due to the weather. Texas Tech had the bases loaded and would push one more run across the plate after play resumed.

Cara Custer took the winning decision going four innings before the postponement earning her 24th win of the season, Tech freshman record. Brittany Talley threw three shutout innings of relief to preserve the 4-1 victory. Tech and Kansas will play Game 2 this afternoon with first pitch at 2 p.m. in Arrocha Park.
