The 24th ranked Texas Tech Baseball team opened play in the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park Friday afternoon. The Red Raiders (8-2) fell to 4th ranked Arkansas 3-1 ending a five game winning streak by the Red Raiders.

Sam Bates hit a two-run home run off Tech starting pitcher Duke von Schamann (2-1) in the bottom of the first inning to give the Razorbacks a 2-0 lead and all the runs they would need in the opening game of the round-robin tournament. Arkansas would add another run in the fourth inning as Jacob Morris drove in Matt Reynolds on a RBI single.

Schamann would give up all three runs off seven hits and striking out seven to the Razorbacks in 7 1/3 innings in his third start of the young season. Texas Tech would try to rally in the top half of the sixth inning as Reid Redman drove in the lone run to make the score 3-1. Razorback hurler Ryne Stanek threw seven innings giving up one run on six hits with seven strikeouts.

Texas Tech will take on the 5th ranked Rice Owls tomorrow at 7 p.m. from Minute Maid Park in Houston.
