Lubbock was gut punched again by another blast of winter weather, leaving a new coat of snow and ice on the road.

First up is the fact that Lubbock ISD and Frenship IDS are CLOSED today. It's a real, 100 percent, no-school snow day. (I can hear kids cheering from here.) For the rest of the closures, check this list.

Once again, my route takes me all the way across the city on I-27, then over to the West Loop, eventually ending up at 82nd and Quaker.

First things first, you're going to need some time to defrost your windshield. There's probably a pretty heavy layer of snow on there.

The snow pack looks like we easily hit the two-inch mark...and maybe as much as the four-inch mark.

Now, the tricky thing about driving on snow is, you can get forward traction and the ruts will even keep you from fishtailing a bit. The problem is, you can't stop once you get going.

I'm giving the driving conditions an F+. It's just about as bad as it can get without it being iced over.

I've already witnessed accidents and practically no one was on the roads at 4:45 a.m. The good news is, TxDOT is already out on the streets working things over with a snow plow. The bad news is, everything is covered in snow, so who knows how much of it they'll get to this morning.

The forecast calls for more snow until about 1 p.m., then a 40 percent chance of more snow overnight with a 30 percent chance of snow or freezing rain tomorrow. Our high today will be around 22 degrees with 38 for a high tomorrow.
