For only the fifth time in NCAA Tournament history, a 15 seed defeated a 2 seed Friday afternoon. The Norfolk State Spartans (26-9) sent the Missouri Tigers (30-5) packing to the Southeastern Conference with an 86-84 victory in Omaha in the West Regional 2nd Round. The last time a 15 beat a 2 was when fellow MEAC conference member Hampton defeated Big 12 foe Iowa State in 2001.

Norfolk State stayed with the Tigers throughout the game and were tied with the Big 12 Conference Tournament Champions at half time at 38-38. Kyle O'Quinn had 26 points and 14 rebounds for the Spartans and made several big plays in the final minutes to preserve the upset win. Pendarvis Williams and Chris McEachin added 20 points each for Norfolk State.

Missouri  had a last shot with 2.9 seconds left, but Missouri's Phil Pressey had his 3-pointer hit the back of the rim as time expired. Norfolk State will face Florida on Sunday afternoon for a spot in the Sweet 16.
