The Levelland man who turned himself in after shooting and killing a Lubbock musician has been booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Pete Garcia, Jr. was transferred to the Lubbock County Detention Center after being booked into the Hockley County Jail late Sunday night (Feb. 7). He received a new booking photo, and the previous bond of $1 million, along with a charge of murder, were upheld.

Garcia had surrendered to Levelland police mere hours after he allegedly shot Orestes Garza in the St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church parking lot. The crime is believed to be related to Garcia's ex-wife Judy's relationship with Garza.

Garza, known by family and friends as West, was transported to University Medical Center after the shooting. He died from his wounds hours later.

On Monday, Pete Garcia's son Joshua spoke to KFYO News about his father's crime, his own personal altercation with West and his attempt to raise funds for West's funeral via a GoFundMe page. The Garza family labeled the page a fraud and demanded it be taken down. Garcia pulled the page as of 7 p.m. Monday night.
