Power Outage Stops Play At The Super Dome During Super Bowl

A power surge caused the lights to go out during the third quarter of Super Bowl XLVII at the Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday night. The outage caused play to be stopped between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers. The incident occurred at the 13:28 mark of the third quarter following Arthur Jones' sack of 49ers' quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

At the time of the outage, the Ravens had established a commanding 28-6 lead over the 49ers after Baltimore's Jacoby Jones returned the second-half kickoff 109 yards for a touchdown. The Ravens surged ahead 21-6 on a 56-yard touchdown reception by Jones from Joe Flacco with just 1:45 left before halftime.

As of 9:10 p.m. (ET), the lights which had gone out during the power outage had come back on inside the facility and the teams had resumed play.
