Quarterback Terrelle Pryor Leaving Ohio State University Amid Autograph Controversy

Amid allegations that the Rose Bowl MVP received payment for signing autographs, Terrelle Pryor has ended his college career.

Pryor’s announcement comes amid several  scandals coming to light at the Ohio State University, which have led to the departure of Head Coach Jim Tressel.

“Outside the Lines” reporters Tom Farrey and Justine Garber reported that a friend of

Pryor’s friend stated, anonymously, that he witnessed the quarterback autograph memorabilia in the 2009-10 season. He said Pryor did this a minimum of 35 to 40 times and that Pryor earned somewhere from $20,000 to $40,000 last year.

The friend said Pryor was paid $500 to $1,000 each time he signed mini football helmets and other gear for Dennis Talbott. Talbott is a Columbus businessman and freelance photographer.

Pryor issued this statement through his attorney:

“In the best interests of my teammates, I’ve made the decision to forgo my senior year of football at The Ohio State University.”

This statement comes as the NCAA investigates claims that Pryor was driving a sports vehicle illegally, although it was proven that his mother bought the car 4 years ago.

Pryor is 3 1-4 as a starter for Ohio State and set a career rushing record for a quarterback with 2,164 yards.

Pryor has stated that he intends to participate in the NFL supplemental draft this summer. However, a date for this draft has yet to be set due to the NFL Labor dispute which could affect Pryor’s pro prospects.

Ohio State will go before the NCAA Infractions Committee August 12th.
