The famous Steel House built by Robert Bruno is open to the public for one night only Monday offering the public a very rare glimpse into the enigmatic sculpture that dominants the cliff-side landscape of Ransom Canyon.

The open house follows the commemoration of Bruno’s untitled sculpture that was the basis of the home on the Texas Tech campus this week.

The 1,700 pound steel sculpture, Untitled, sat in a field in East Lubbock for 35 years before being moved to Tech’s College of Architecture building this spring. Texas Tech’s public art manager Emily Wilkinson told KFYO News the sculpture itself was purchased for $35,000. She said moving and installing the sculpture cost in the ballpark of $100,000.

Bruno was a local artist and former faculty member of the College of Architecture.

The open house for Steel House runs from 5-8 p.m. Monday night. The house is located at 85 E. Canyon View Drive, Ransom Canyon, Texas.
