If you're a music fan and also a fan of higher education for our youth, then you've got to make plans to be at the Brock Riemath Memorial Scholarship Rascal Roundup Annual Benefit on Saturday, April 9.

We talked with Kia and Deanie Riemath about why this is so important to them.

Kia said that education is very important to their family, in part due to the fact that Brock 'Rascal' Riemath, Kia's youngest son, lost his life at the age of 8 and 1/2. He didn't get the chance to finish school or go to college.

Kia said that Brock stepped off the back of a moving pickup truck 19 years ago and suffered a brain injury that would ultimately take his young life. Brock had seen a billboard the week before his accident about organ donation and told his mom that he thought that was a good idea, since "you can't take 'em with you where you're goin'."

Wisdom as such a young age is surprising, and Kia said it's almost as if he knew he wouldn't be here on earth very long.  She said that the whole time he was a child, "he never said 'when I grow up' like most kids do."

The show on April 9 will be at The Office Grill & Sports Bar, located at 50th & Frankfrod from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. and will feature bands Broken Bar V, Callahan Divide, Zac Wilkerson & The Wayward Souls and The Dix Hat Band. There will also be great food, drinks and a silent auction.

Tickets are available for only $10 at Ralph's Records at 82nd & Indiana or at the door the day of the show.
