Red Raider Men’s Golf Wraps Up 1st Round of NCAA Regional

Texas Tech’s 15^th ranked men’s golf team wrapped up day one of the NCAA Tucson Regional Wednesday at 1-under par and in sixth place overall, just five strokes behind tournament leader San Diego State who finished their day at 6 under par.

The Red Raider shot a first-round team total of 283 and are just two strokes behind fellow Big 12 competitor Texas A&M and Arizona who are tied for fourth at 3-under 281. The University of Washington checked in at second place at 5-under 279, while Liberty finished the afternoon just one stroke behind Washington in third place with a 4-under 280. The top five teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Oklahoma May 31^st through June 5^th.

Senior Nils Floren set the tone for the Red Raiders in the first round as he fired a 4-under 67 and currently sits in a three-way tie for third place individually. Senior Matt Smith also had a strong first day and is currently in a tie for 18 at even par. Teammates Fin Ewing logged a 1-over 72 and is tied for 30^th while Chandler Rusk shot 2-over and is tied for 38^th. Tyler Weworski finished the day at 3-over 74 and is tied for 49^th.

The Red Raiders will return to action in the second round of play Friday morning with a 9:30 tee-off time.
