The man who caused millions of nightmares has paid his final respects to Wes Craven, who died Sunday.

Robert Englund's Freddy Krueger became synonymous with bad dreams following his debut in Wes Craven's 1984 classic "A Nightmare on Elm Street."

In the horror movie, Englund's Krueger terrorizes a group of teens in their dreams.

The role helped catapult Englund and Craven into the mainstream spotlight, launching a franchise that, more than 30 years later, remains a staple in the genre.

Englund bid farewell to his friend on Twitter, calling him a "a rare species."
