found himself sitting atop the leader-board. Darren Clarke shot his second straight round of 2-under 68 today to take a share of the lead at Royal St. George with American Lucas Glover. Clarke rolled in a 90-footer for eagle on the seventh and closed out his round with a birdie on 18, to put him in a tie with Glover at 4 under 136.

The 42-year-old Clarke was once the face of Northern Ireland golf, but has become a bit of an afterthought since Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy claimed major championships.

The 2009 U.S. Open champion Glover followed an opening round 66 with a strong 70 Friday to keep him tied atop the leader board.

Miguel Jimenez, Thomas Bjorn, Chad Campbell and Martin Kaymer all finished their second round of the Open in a tied for third at 3 under par.

Amateur Tom Lewis shot a 74 of Friday to fall into a tie at 14th, 1-under par, meanwhile reigning U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy carded a 1-under to put him even through two rounds.

The U.S. has gone five straight majors without a title — its longest drought of the modern Grand Slam era.
