Tonight, at Minute Maid Park the San Diego Padres beat the Houston Astros 8-7 in 10 innings. With the loss, the Astros record in extra innings drops to 0-7 on the season. The Astros also left the bases loaded in the second, third and fourth innings.

Dale Thayer picked up the win for the Padres and Huston Street pitched a scoreless 10th inning to get the save.  Brandon Lyon gave up with winning run in the top of the 10th.  The loss drops Lyon’s record to 0-2.

The Astros jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with two solo homers. Brian Bixler hit his to right field (pictured) and Carlos Lee’s barely cleared the scoreboard in left to land in the Crawford Boxes.

The Padres then roughed up starter Wandy Rodriguez by scoring 4 runs in the second and a fifth in the third.

The game was then tied at 5 after four innings when the Astros scored two with a Chris Johnson RBI single and a bases loaded walk. Jed Lowrie then gave the Astros a 6-5 lead the next inning with an RBI double.

Astros reliever Fernando Rodriguez however couldn’t shut the door and he blew the save in the eighth inning by giving up a two-run homer to Jesus Guzman, which made the score 7-6.

Catcher Jason Castro tied the game again in the eighth with a solo homer to right field.

Brandon Lyon took over the pitching duties for the Astros in the 10th and it looked like he would have a short inning. After getting an out, Lyon walked Chase Headley. Headley then stole second uncontested.  That set up Carlos Quentin for the game winning RBI. Quentin worked the count full and hit a fastball to right field for a double.

The Padres improved their record to 27-47 while the Astros fell to 30-43.
