Sergio Garcia and Tiger Woods “War of Words” Takes an Ugly Turn

The feud between PGA Tour golfers Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia has finally reached a boiling point after how The Players Championship ended just two weeks ago.  The comment that caused the latest spat in the feud came from Sergio Garcia while he was speaking at a European Tour Awards dinner.  Garcia was asked while speaking if he would have dinner with Tiger before the upcoming US Open.  He responded with, “We’ll have him ’round every night. We will serve fried chicken.”

Now Sergio came out today and did apologize for his comments and emphatically denied that it was meant in a racial or derogatory manner.  In this day and age though and especially with him being as big a name in golf that he is, he has to know better.  Garcia’s sponsors Adidas and Taylor Made came out with statements saying they believe that Sergio is very sorry for what he said and will further review the incident that took place.  That being said, they did not state whether his contract with them will or won’t  be terminated.

Tiger responded today on Twitter by saying “The comment that was made wasn’t silly. It was wrong, hurtful and clearly inappropriate.”  He followed that by saying “I’m confident that there is real regret that the remark was made. “The Players ended nearly two weeks ago and it’s long past time to move on and talk about golf.”

The controversy or war of words that has taken place since The Players has given golf fans around the world even more of a reason to tune in to the upcoming US Open.  That event will take place June 13-16.
