Eight years and $10 million later, the program is scrapped after few users show up.

According to reports, Texas lawmakers finally had enough and decided the program served its purpose and it's time to end it. The program helped collect thousands of samples, but only a handful of positive results came back.

The report says it became a target for critics who called it a waste of money. At one time, it was the model for the nation and an effective deterrent, but now it's no longer needed.

The program was started in response to the fears that the use of PEDs was growing in professional and amateur sports. In a state that loves its football, lawmakers felt that the high school students here were particularly prone to abuse.

Friday’s vote took all money for the testing program out of the next state budget, which was sent to Gov. Greg Abbott to sign into law.
