The Dallas Cowboys officially have a running back problem. That's where Steven Jackson may come in.

After learning of Darren McFadden's injury and PUP list obligation, Jackson tweeted out his own version of a bat signal over AT&T Stadium featuring his number 39, alerting Commissioner Jones he was ready to play for the Dallas Cowboys.

After the Cowboys also cut Ryan Matthews last week, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar are the thunder and lightning the Cowboys are now trying to replace DeMarco Murray with.

The truth is Randle and Dunbar are more lightning and low-pressure cloud movement. Dunbar is a viable option catching passes from the backfield, but he is not an answer to get 10-plus carries a game for the entire season.

The other running back on the list is Lache Seastrunk. The Baylor product may get some carries, but will have to improve leaps and bounds in his blocking and inside running ability to be a solid option for Tony Romo and this year's Cowboys offense.

Jackson played in Atlanta in 2014 where he accumulated 707 yards on 190 carries and six touchdowns. He had a single 100-yard game against the Cardinals, and carried more than 15 times five times.

If Jackson can repeat those stats in Dallas and become the counterweight to Randle's "change of pace back" persona, then the Cowboys should sign him. If Jackson and Randle can both be responsible for 700 yards, then the Cowboys will be in a position to win 10 games this season.

Jackson can be a Marion Barber-type running back that can close 4th quarters out with force. He is not the only free agent running back available to the Cowboys, though.

Ben Tate, Phillip Tanner and Cyrus Gray are a few career backups that could provide some carries. Shonn Greene, Knowshon Moreno and Pierre Thomas are also free agents who have running back by committee experience.

The point is, the Cowboys have lots of options if they want a left over, washed-up running back. They could sign any of these guys to the league minimum for a single year and survive.

But surviving does not win Super Bowls.

If the Cowboys want to win a Super Bowl in the next three years, they must find a solution for a running back. Maybe that answer is on the roster in the underwear thief Joseph Randle, or a miraculous cap-defying trade with the Minnesota Vikings.

If Steven Jackson has anything to do with it, he is that answer. Because he's the hero Gotham Dallas deserves, the one it needs right now, so we'll sign him. Because he can take it, because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a...Dark Knight?
