TCU Defensive End Devonte Fields to Transfer to SFA

After meeting with TCU university officials on Tuesday, the Big 12 preseason defensive player of the year in Devonte Fields has decided to transfer to the University of Stephen F. Austin.  This comes after he was arrested after reports surfaced that he allegedly hit and threatened an ex-girlfriend in an early-morning incident last month.  A four-star recruit from Arlington Martin, Fields (pictured on the left) was the 2012 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, recording 53 tackles and 10 sacks as a true freshman.  The defensive lineman was suspended early last season before an injury ended his season.  He was awarded a medical red-shirt and was expected to be at full strength for the Horned Frogs after a strong spring.

A statement regarding the situation, TCU had this to say: “Devonte Fields continues to be separated from the University at this time.  TCU’s process to handle a situation when a student is alleged to have violated the University Code of Student Conduct comprises several parts.  A judicial hearing on the matter is held.  A panel of faculty and staff members reviews the case and the student is given an opportunity to respond to the allegations.  The panel then decides by a preponderance of evidence whether or not a violation of the University’s code has occurred.  If a student is found in violation, a sanction is applied.  The student is afforded the opportunity to appeal that decision before a final decision is rendered.  This process can take several days to complete.  Judicial hearings for students are protected information under the FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy) Act.”
