Almost five inches of rain came down in Shallowater through 5pm, Thursday and it caused immense flooding in the city. The Mayor of Shallowater reported almost two feet of water in his residence and other parts of the city had 6"-12" inches of flood water in structures.

Lubbock County Emergency Management reports around 75 homes, in the City of Shallowater, having received significant damage due to flooding.  Other parts of Lubbock County, and the City of Lubbock, have been affected by Thursday's flooding.

The City of Shallowater, along with the South Plains Chapter of the American Red Cross, will open a temporary shelter at the 12th Street Church of Christ, located at 1001 12th Street, Shallowater, Texas.

This temporary shelter will be open to any citizen in the Shallowater area and should be operational by 7:00 pm Thursday evening.
