Texas A&M Sues Indianapolis Colts for Use of ’12th Man’
Texas A&M University has a trademark on the term "12th Man" even though many other teams use the term.
The Indianapolis Star reports that Texas A&M has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the Indianapolis Colts in Texas federal court.
According to the report, the Colts' use of the term helps the team sell tickets and merchandise. Now, Texas A&M thinks they should have a cut of the action.
Texas A&M didn't originate the term, but they do have the trademark. Currently, the Seattle Seahawks pay Texas A&M for the right to use the term. A&M want the Colts to pay up as well.
