"The Big 12 values its presence in the Houston area, and the role it has played in the growth of the Texas Bowl," commented Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. "We are excited to continue our relationship with Lone Star Sports & Entertainment, the Houston Texans, and ESPN Regional Television in the management of this event."

Up through the 2013 postseason, the Texas Bowl featured teams from the Big 12 and Big 10 conferences. Last season, Texas Tech beat Minnesota 34-31 at the Texas Bowl.

“The SEC is pleased to welcome the Texas Bowl to our post-season lineup,” said SEC Commissioner Mike Slive.  “I am glad we can take SEC football into the state of Texas in the post-season on an annual basis for an attractive matchup with a Big 12 opponent.  We look forward to a long and productive relationship with the Texas Bowl.”

The Texas Bowl will become the third bowl game with a Big 12- SEC matchup, joining the Sugar and Liberty bowl games.
