Texas Rangers And Geovany Soto Agree To Deal

The Texas Rangers and Catcher Geovany Soto agreed yesterday to a $2.75 million, one year contract.The agreement, which was announced during the first day of the winter baseball meetings, allows Soto to earn an additional $250,000 in performance bonuses.
Soto hit .196 last season and had five home runs and 25 RBIs in 47 games as Mike Napoli’s backup. Napoli signed a three-year $39 million deal with the Boston Red Sox.
Soto became a free agent after Texas failed to offer him a contract by Friday’s deadline. The move allowed the Rangers to cut Soto’s salary by 20 percent. Soto was making $4.3 million this year.
The Texas Rangers open the 2013 season on April 2nd on the road against new division foe and in state rival Houston Astros.
