The Texas Rangers put the finishing touches on a $10 million, one-year deal with six time All-Star, designated hitter Lance Berkman.

The deal included a vesting option for 2014.  Berkman only played in 32 games last year for the St. Louis Cardinals after being hit with the injury bug in his right knee.  He fills a hole in the middle of the line up that was created after Josh Hamilton and Mike Napoli bolted in free agency and Michael Young was traded to the Phillies.

Berkman has hit .296 in his career and has 360 homers and 1,200 RBI's in 1,806 regular season games.  The Rangers open the MLB season on March 31 on the road against the Houston Astros.
