The Texas Rangers have placed left-handed starting pitcher Derek Holland on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder fatigue.

Texas has moved Alexi Ogando from the bullpen into the rotation and right-handed reliever Tanner Scheppers has been called up from Triple-A Round Rock to fill the roster void.

Ogando will pitch on Sunday against the Giants.

Holland has been dealing with a stomach virus for past two and a half weeks, and said Wednesday that it’s caused him to lose 15 pounds over that time period, zapping his strength, including his shoulder.

The Rangers sent him back to Texas on Thursday, and he will be examined on Friday by Dr. Keith Meister.

"We want him at full strength," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "We want to make sure we find out what this is and give him a chance to fully recover."

Holland is 5-4 with a 5.10 ERA on the season, and 2-2 with an 8.38 ERA in his last four starts.
