The one bright spot in the Texas Longhorns win over the Kansas Jayhawks Saturday was freshman running back Johnathan Gray, and because of his breakout performance the youngster has found himself atop the Horns depth chart heading into this weekend’s showdown against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Gray rushed for 111 yards in the Longhorns 21-17 win at Kansas.

"It feels great. I really didn't expect it," Gray said Monday. "I'm thankful to be a starter this week. That means a lot because the starter has to start off the game well and start off right. For me, my mindset is helping my team out to start the game."

Gray’s been counted on more and more as the seasons progressed as sophomore tailback Malcolm Browns been sidelined the last four games with a lingering ankle injury.

Under center the Horns will return to David Ash despite back-up Case McCoy coming in during the fourth quarter against the Jayhawks and leading the team to victory.
