The first half of the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl featured a little bit of everything: big plays, defensive stops and the teams exchanging punts.

Texas Tech was down 7-0 to the LSU Tigers with less than 5 minutes left in the 1st quarter. After moving the ball across midfield, it appeared that the Red Raiders drive would stall at the LSU 46. But on a 3rd & 11, Jakeem Grant got open on a go route and Mahomes connected perfectly for a 46-yard touchdown pass.

After the touchdown pass, Texas Tech lined up in the swinging gate formation and ended up going for two. Cameron Baton's pass was incomplete, giving LSU a 7-6 lead.

One play after the kickoff, D.J. Chark busted open a 79-yard touchdown run for an immediate response to the Tech score. With the PAT, LSU led 14-6 with 0:29 left in the 1st quarter.

By the end of the first half, LSU had extended that lead to 21, with the Red Raiders scoring another 7 to make it 21-14.
