The Texas Tech Red Raider Baseball team opened up the third-annual Brooks Wallace Memorial Classic Friday with a 4-1 win over No. 18 St. John’s.

The Red Raiders got on the board first scoring a run in the bottom of the first after right-fielder  Jamodrick McGruder crossed home plate on a single to third base by Reid Redman.

All-American center-fielder Barrett Barnes drove in the team’s remaining three runs when he belted and inside the park home-run in the 7th inning that cleared the bases. It was Barnes 26th career home-run and his first career inside-the-park homer.

Duke von Schamann pitched 7 innings for Texas Tech, allowing three hits while striking out five on 87 pitches.

Texas Tech will play its second game of the tournament Saturday afternoon with a 5 p.m. first pitch against Northern Illinois.
