Texas Tech baseball squared off against Fairfield on Friday afternoon in round one of the Lubbock Regional and showed everyone why they are the top seed winning 12-1 on the back of a Davis Martin gem.

Tyler Neslony drove in four runs while Stephen Smith messed around and got on base five times going 3-3 with two walks. Davis Martin and Erickson Lanning pitched seven and two innings respectively saving the big guns in the bullpen for later in the weekend.

Texas Tech totaled 16 hits on their way to 12 runs with top of the order doing a bulk of the damage aside from the solo home run Michael Davis shot out of the park.

Tech also saw the return of Tanner Gardner the sensational sophomore All-Big 12 center fielder who went 2-3 and scored a few runs. The out he recorded was a deep fly all to the track in left after he hit several balls out of the park just foul.

The victory bells move the Red Raiders (42-16) into the winner's bracket and will face New Mexico at 6:00 pm Saturday, June 4th.

Texas Tech and New Mexico will face off for the fourth time this season with Tech owning the regular season 2-1. Tech winning the first two 14-10 and 7-4 before losing in extra innings 6-5 snapping a 10 game winning streak in Albuquerque.

All three of the previous games were midweek tilts so this will be the first experience both teams have with the weekend starters of both teams.

This is all guess work but I'm going to assume New Mexico will throw sophomore righty Tyler Stevens who sports an 8-4 record in 15 appearances with a 4.34 ERA.

Texas Tech will counter, I'm assuming, with Steven Gingery. The left-handed freshman who has a 4-2 record with 12 appearances and a 3.07 ERA.
