The Red Raiders improved their seeding in the Big 12 Tournament defeating the 22nd ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys on Sunday 5-3.

Texas Tech went into Sunday's Senior Game trying to send off short stop Nick Popescu, the lone senior, in style. The Raiders did just that.

After two high scoring games to start off the series, both games breaking double digits, this low scoring event was a change of pace.

After a scoreless 1st the Red Raiders broke the tie and did it in exciting fashion. Designated hitter Bo Altobelli jacked a grand slam in the 2nd to give Tech all the runs they would need. It was the first home run of Altobelli's  career.

Duke von Schamann got the winner for the Raiders going 7 innings on 79 pitches giving up 1 run on 5 hits.

Tech gave themselves some more breathing room in the 6th on 1st baseman Stephen Hagen's sacrifice fly to bring in center fielder Barret Barnes and extended their lead to 5-0.

Okie State came back in the 8th on a  Mark Ginther solo home run to end the shut out. John Neely came in after the home run to relieve Von Schamann to a standing ovation. Neely proceeded to give up 1 run on 2 hits. The Cowboys had the bases loaded and scored a run as Zach Johnson hit into a double play to bring in outfielder Nico Rosthenhausler.

Ben Flora came in after the double play for Neely and got a ground out to end the inning.

Tech went scoreless in their half of the 8th leaving the score at 5-2 heading into the 9th.

In the top of the 9th Flora hit 2nd basemen Davis Duren and was taken out for Jerad McCrummen, who would close out the game. With 2 outs and Duren on  3rd Ginther got his 2nd RBI of the game on a weak single to 2nd base that scored Duren making the game 5-3. Pinch hitter Luis Uribe came up to bat as the tying man but flied out to right field to end the game.

Tech improves their record to 33-23 and 12-15 in conference play.
