It's not anything new at this point. Texas Tech Basketball is gaining steam in the recruiting world and is turning into real a player in the game. And the latest Texas Tech commit only adds clout to Chris Beard and his merry band of recruiters.

The next future Red Raider star is Khalid Thomas, a 6'9" hybrid forward Rivals 4* prospect who spent last season at the College of Southern Idaho. He averaged 14.7 points and 6.5 rebounds on his way to a National Championship appearance vs South Plains and Deshawn Corprew, who is now a Red Raider.

Here are Corprew (no. 3 in navy) and Thomas (no. 23 in white) battling it out for the National Championship:

Thomas committed to Texas Tech after getting 19 other offers from schools like Arizona, Baylor, LSU, Oregon, and West Virginia.

I'm sure there are a myriad of reasons that Khalid Thomas chose Texas Tech (chiefly, Chris Beard), but it's more than just being around Beard and the facilities. Thomas is tailor-made for the motion offense and defensive scheme that Chris Beard employs. He can score from all three levels, and defend both the post and the perimeter.

The 2019 Texas Tech basketball class is already shaping up to be a great one, with Thomas and Kevin McCullar, who's already on Campus, but still listed in the 2019 class on 247sports.com. The Red Raiders and Coach Beard are also in on a number of other high profile guys all over the country.

It's an exciting time to be a Red Raider.

Here are some more highlights of Khalid Thomas to get you even more excited about him and the Texas Tech men's basketball program:
