There's a saying about running through a wall for someone. It's all about inspiring confidence to do the impossible. Kevin Patrick is one of those guys that inspires that level of confidence and it's a good thing because he's been tasked with something that seems impossible.

The Red Raiders have been bad on defense for a long time. In 2006, the Red Raider defense gave up 3,788 yards -- 1,769 of them on the ground. That was middle of the pack as far as the NCAA is concerned. In 2015, they gave up 6,482 yards, with 3,262 on the ground. That's the bottom of the pack.

I know the offense and game as a whole has evolved in 10 years, but the middle of the pack is still 2,000 yards better than the Texas Tech defense of 2015.

Kevin Patrick and company have been brought in to change the culture on defense.

Patrick lives with a champions heartbeat. "In my heart... I still believe in that," he told us. "I strive for that everyday."

The depth on the defensive line is something that Patrick is excited about, saying he has, "a motley crew" of guys that creates a special group up front.
